Daily Election Bulletin

Bite-sized election tit-bits for those not able to sustain a large election column

New Labour

New Labour has returned to its minimalist campaigning style that characterised the early stages of this campaign. This indicates two things: one; that they've realised that if they go big on the Tory-bashing every day it might begin to look like they have no other policies, and two; that they have no other policies other than the Tory-bashing.

Update: Tory-bashing day it is then, as they have realised that in order to fill their airtime regulations, the news broadcasters would probably focus on the Government's involvement in the MG-Rover fiasco. "Blair Attacks 'Flawed' Tory Plans" sits a bit better than "Labour Government Allow Huge Industrial Collapse" during the campaign.

Conservatives

Michael Howard has unveiled the Tory manifesto for the election. Focus grouping has directed the Tories to reduce the size of the document, so that in Howard's words "people will actually read it".

Conservative officials refused to be drawn on suggestions that the manifesto is actually the 'Femail' section of last Friday's Daily Mail.

Expect The Tories to go big on Blair fiddling whilst Rover burns tomorrow, to try to keep the legs on the story and keep it a political issue.

Liberal Democrats

The LibDems today announced that they are delaying the announcement of their election manifesto until tomorrow as Sarah Kennedy is due to give birth to their leaders first child during the election campaign. This is baffling many commentators, as it was widely assumed that the fact that Sarah is due to give birth was the LibDems manifesto.

On a serious note though, Sarah Kennedy was admitted to hospital and Charlie ditched the campaigning today to be with her. Latest news reports indicate that all is well. Policy Blender wish Sarah, Charlie and the potential new LibDem voter all the best. Cheers Charlie.

Tomorrow's press conferences will be hosted by Menzies "the merciless" Campbell. Deputy to Champagne Charlie.
