MI5 Supremo: ID cards 'absolutely useless'

Yet another blow for a Blairite pet project came yesterday as Dame Stella Rimmington, the former head of MI5 savaged the government's case for ID cards. The former spy-master added:

"ID cards may be helpful in all kinds of things but I don't think they are necessarily going to make us any safer."

Is there anybody anywhere that still thinks that these things are worthwhile?

It'd be useful for getting into bars in the US. But I have a passport already.

It's just more crap for you to cancel/report stolen/pay to replace when you loose your wallet or are mugged by a gang of thugs who's sole purpose in life is to reproduce, steal and leech all it can from the state... rant, rant, rant....

Hello all, it's been a while :-)

Yeah, muggers can get bent. maybe they should issue razor edged ID cards to give the disserning citizen a little real protection.

Does the advent of UK ID cards mean that we will now be tracked around the country as we are required to present or swipe our ID cards in much the same way as we londoners are doubtless tracked around london by our Oyster cards. Save £1:20 on your weekly travel card, now these gits could send me ( to my god damd home)a list of all the places I've been in london in the last week/month/year. How can that be right.

Who needs that information?

Customs and Excise - perhaps :)

Welcome back Chris. Good use of the word 'cunts' in your first post in a fortnight.

Word!

in the hip hop sense of course, ie I agree.

of course the only real problem being that the people who really need to be taking on board your message are more than likely currently locked into a never ending cycle of judge judy.

I suggest the soap box approach, chris, you seem to have the nuts for it, I'll upturn an apple crate outside my work and you can vocally bludgion the weak into hurling themselves into the river.

(accident blackspot! ! throw youself into the river darling you havent got a f**king chance)

I'll get the C**t banner drawn up over the weekend so should be good to lay into freshly demoralised pray come monday.
