Daily Election Bulletin
Bite-sized election tit-bits for those not able to sustain a large election column
New Labour
It was Tory-bashing day again today. Hinting that lesson one (the electorate may get turned off by constant negative campaigning) has been shot to pieces by lesson two (if you've got noting going for you, slag off the other guys)
Blair and Brown, now re-cast as Eurytos and Kteatos, have been in Scotland today, insisting that it's a straight choice between New Labour and the Tories.
The main theme has been the Tories economic plans, which New Labour are saying reveal a "black hole".
Also on the menu, Blair's thuggish enforcer Dr John Reid was sent to Devon to deliver a letter to Devon South Conservative Association demanding the sacking of their candidate. More on that below.
New Labour today said that there was a "black hole in the Liberal Democrats spending plans" - It's black hole day.
Conservatives
Michael Howard is probably secretly hoping that he could exercise the same control over his party as Tony Blair previously held over the lobotomised ranks of the power deprived New Labour junkies. Not to be though. The party that makes a big fuss about everybody being an individual has yet again been shot down by an individual idiot.
Dorset South candidate Ed Matts was pictured in a local paper a while back carrying a photo of an asylum seeker, next to Ann Widdecombe holding a placard saying "let them stay".
Matts' campaign literature contains the same photo, only this time the placard is saying "controlled immigration" and the Widdecombe's says "not chaos and inhumanity".
So it looks like Ed wanted the guy to stay, but doesn't want people to know about it. This seems strangely like New Labour's 'open door/not welcome sign' approach, but that hasn't stopped Tony's cronies piling in and duly so.
Why use the photo at all? Why go to all of the trouble to photo-shop it, especially when he failed to photo-shop the Widdecombe out of it too?
The lemming-like suicidal tendency of the Tory candidates is unfathomable. This time Howard has had enough, and won't sack him. Danny Kruger and Howard Flight must be kicking themselves that the South Devon Dumbass diddn't beat them to it.
The Liberal Democrats
Sarah's had the baby. They've called him Donald James and he's 6lbs 9ozs.
Charles is going to take a couple of days off and the other LibDems will just have to muddle through without him. Here are some other LibDems for your information:
Sir Menzies Campbell - Deputy leader and foreign affairs
Vince Cable - Treasury
Lembit Opik - Northern Ireland and Wales
John Thurso - Silly Moustaches
