Shock at Tory TV Ad

The Conservatives are under severe pressure from New Labour and the Liberal Democrats this morning following their Party Election Broadcast (PEB) last night.

The official New Labour election supremo, Alan Milburn, said in a statement to the BBC and the Guardian:

"It's a blatant breach of campaigning rules and a dangerous deviation from traditional procedureā€¦ Conservative PEBs are meant to be embarrassingly poor quality with low production values and cheesy music.

Last night's PEB was none of those things - it looked like they'd paid someone to do it rather than just borrowed Lord Ashcroft's camcorder. The music was so catchy I've still got that damn guitar riff in my head.

The people looked normal, instead of the usual posh Tory geeksā€¦ and don't get me started on the content - they're supposed to pick a single issue that isn't really a concern to the electorate and just hammer away at it - like Hague's 'keep the pound' thing. This one took on a broad range of issues that the electorate really are concerned about and that makes us look like complete tossers! I will be making a formal complaint to the Electoral Commission later today."

A Liberal Democrat spokesperson added:

"Ahh, look at the lickle bay-bee."
